I regularly check FLACs that I download through the command line (kind of a superficial practice since I'm only really copy-pasting the command) and every so often I get the error:

WARNING, cannot check MD5 signature since it was unset in the STREAMINFO

What I've gathered is that the file isn't necessarily corrupted, but it's missing an MD5 header meaning I can't verify it. The solution seems to be decoding, adding the signature myself, and re-encoding it. Does anyone know how to accomplish this, or if I'm misunderstanding this entirely? Thanks.

Meta thread. If you have a complaint about moderation, post it here. If you have a rule suggestion, post it here, and it might become a new rule. This OP was edited December 27th 3:56am UTC since a lot of the information was out of date, irrelevant or just quite cluttering.

To the anon who appealed their ban with “what self promotion threads” and “I am not the artist” (there’s no way to talk with banned people so I have to post this here). You’ve been here for at least four months and the majority of your posts are of the one artist with videos that all have views in the double digits. It’s very obvious that you’re in some way affiliated with this music, whether you're going to lie about it or not. Now, if you’d read the rules at any point, you’d have seen the part that says “if it isn't on Bandcamp or SoundCloud, post it in either of those threads anyway”. Those are the self promotion threads. They’re almost always at the top of the catalog, and they’re mentioned in the rules, so you have no excuse for not knowing about them. I didn’t come up with these rules, the rest of the users did. If you don’t like it, maybe this isn't the place for you. I’ve unbanned you, but please actually read the rules this time.

Alright faggots, as promised, I decided to make actual CDs for an Autistic Rage Festival album, and since we couldn't really decide which one should it be, I decided it should be no other than the debut.

>How do I get one?

You send me an email to yungdaggerdick@nigge.rs and we talk about it.

>How much it costs?

The shipping cost is all you need to pay for, which is up to you how much you want to pay:

<If you want registered mail, it will cost 2020 HUF to European countries (not only EU members) and 2175 HUF to the rest of the world.

<If you say fuck it gimme your cheapest, that will be 835 HUF ($2.96) to Europe and 935 HUF ($3.32) to the rest of the world.

The cheapest option means the it won't be registered, I can't track it down and if this shit gets lost on the way to you it will be fucking lost and the post office wont refund. It also arrives like weeks later.

The package obviously ships from Hungary, it contains a gluten free fragile-ass jewel case and 2 CDs I will draw dicks on. I will also draw other shit on it if you ask nicely.

You can listen to the masterpiece here:

https://arfm.bandcamp.com/album/megatron-sings-the-blues

I'm not sure how many of y'all gonna order one, I can make about 10 copies, so grab it while it's hot.

1. Keep posts music related. Music critics/journalism are okay.

2. Self promotion doesn't deserve its own thread. Otherwise, the board would be flooded with it. Post your Bandcamp stuff in the Bandcamp thread here >>34317 and your SoundCloud stuff in the SoundCloud thread here >>97953. If it isn't on Bandcamp or SoundCloud, post it in either of those threads anyway. They tend to be the only ones used frequently enough to warrant threads.

3. If you want to ask a question but it won't generate discussion, post it in the questions that don't deserve their own thread thread here >>80813. This is to stop the board from being littered with threads nobody wants to reply to. This includes identifying the song in a webm/mp4, identifying the genre of something, and requests. This list will grow and shrink the more users complain about things. Complaints about moderation or suggestions for the board don't deserve their own threads either, unless they're extremely important. They go in the meta thread here >>79867.

4. NSFW album covers etc are okay, but put them under spoilers.

5. No duplicate threads or spam.

If something doesn't break a rule, no action will be taken. If you don't like something about the board or things other people are posting, mention it in the meta thread and maybe we can make a rule against it.

Does /mu/ play an instrument? Discuss where you're at skill wise, what you're working on writing or learning currently, ask other anons for help, etc. Post audio clips of your playing (for critique of your playing, not full mixes for promotion). And finally post your gear but don't shit up the thread with brandwhoring and annoying shit.

There seems to be more to MPM Soundtracks than the surface-level aesthetics so many people seem to be focused on. There's a kind of feeling of bittersweet longing to his music, almost like what you find in Boards of Canada's stuff (but without a lot of the more unsettling elements).

He also feels a lot more authentically '80s-sounding than most in an odd way despite his reliance on freeware synths. I'm sure he wouldn't necessarily if you compared his sound and production directly to actual '80s artists, but he seems to capture the feeling of what it's like looking back to that era more accurately than just gushing over neon and cyberpunk imagery.

It's a shame he's not still releasing material.

Encoder, new Mega Drive EP. No big changes to the formula, just a reminder he's got by far the best sound design in town. The bass in some of these tracks is just breathtaking. More than ever you get the sense he's composing a cyberpunk world all his own.

That's quite dissapointing given that Warmech was pretty good (especially for what it is, i.e. a game soundtrack album).

To those who make music. What did you learn along your journey? What were the most important skills you acquired? What tips would you give beginners?

 No.99423

Be your own worst critic without being too inhibited; high standards are a must, but don't allow yourself to become paralyzed by perfectionism. Have a vision for what it is you're trying to accomplish while being willing to accept criticism. Whether you're into composition, production, or physically playing an instrument, get regular practice. It can take years to get good at what you're doing, so the sooner you start the better. Don't make hoarding equipment or lusting after legendary hardware a higher priority than actually making music. Having a Jupiter-8 or a vintage Gibson guitar isn't necessarily going to make you a better musician and might not even be the best choice for the sound you're going for.

I just make music on and off as a private hobby and am probably not the kind of person you're looking for advice from, though.

honestly this has helped me out a lot more than I ever thought. not saying it's a good thing. I always wanted to collaborate, or make music with people whose skills were equal to or better than. when i stopped waiting for them to do something, I started making more myself. it was just me all along, which is a little depressing, but now I'm making stuff.
